Oh but you can see it

Once somebody asked me why we can’t see the wind. My forehead wrinkled and my eyebrows furrowed, a slight tilt occupied my head. Not because I didn’t understand the question, but more so the concept that you couldn’t see the wind. What did she mean by this, it seemed so clear, so obvious that we could. In the trees on an autumn afternoon, in the waves on a late summer evening kissing the beach as the sun slipped out of the stars hands.

It was never a question of the wind; but love.

I’ve noticed this is a question society is often searching the ends of the earth for, wondering where their soul mate is or when they will meet the love of their life. Seemingly lacking love in a hopeless search for it, but don’t you see? Love is all around us.

In every child that giggles when you briefly stick your tongue out in passing as they peek out of their stroller. It lingers through your day after petting a furry friend on their afternoon walk. Sits with you in the smiles that greet you at any gathering or outing. Calms you in the shoulder you cry on, celebrates you around candles you blow out every year. It’s in the strangers that approach you for directions, in the air filled with a fresh batch of cookies baking in the oven. You may not see love when you search for it, but in the little things you can find it, hear it, smell it.  Seemingly invisible, dauntingly observable, love is all around you.
